Casinos around the country built good will in their communities by giving away thousands of turkey dinners to people in need this week.

The Cordish Companies Live! Casinos in Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia organized food drives alongside local food banks.
Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia worked with the nonprofit Sharing Excess to provide 500 turkeys and a bag of produce to people. Sharing Excess works to bridge the gap between excess and scarcity by redistributing surplus food to communities in need.
“We’re honored to partner with Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia once again this Thanksgiving season,” said Evan Ehler, CEO of Sharing Excess. “Partnerships like this demonstrate the powerful impact we can achieve together in fighting food waste and food insecurity, ensuring fresh, nutritious food reaches those who need it most in our community.”
Each week, the organization moves more than one million pounds of food in partnership with grocers, retailers, wholesalers, and farmers to combat food waste.
“As we gear up for our fifth anniversary of being a proud South Philly neighbor, our commitment to giving back remains as steadfast as it did on day one,” said Jake Joyce, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Live! Casino & Hotel Philadelphia. “We’re honored to once again help our neighbors enjoy a warm, nourishing Thanksgiving meal. Through our partnerships with Sharing Excess, the Whitman Council and our civic partners, we’re proud to continue supporting our community not just during the holidays, but all year long.”
Live! Casino Virginia worked with The Hope Center in Petersburg to hand out 500 turkey dinners last week, joining Live! Casino & Hotel Maryland in Hanover who worked with the Anne Arundel County Food Bank, who gave away the same amount.
“Each month, we serve around 51,000 people in Anne Arundel County who are facing food insecurity. As the effects of the recent government shutdown continue to reverberate, we’re expecting higher demand this holiday season,” said Leah Paley, CEO of the Anne Arundel County Food Bank. “With more residents in need, we are grateful for the long-term support of Live! Casino and Hotel, especially the annual turkey donation and their volunteer service throughout the year.”
Live! casinos weren’t the only casinos to get in the giving game.
Hard Rock Tejon Casino in California donated 1,000 turkeys to the local service organization Golden Empire Gleaners, which lost their sponsorship this year. Hard Rock Tejon stepped in a filled the gap.
“Supporting our team members and lifting up our community has always been core to who we are,” said Chris Kelley, President of Hard Rock Tejon Casino. “Providing these holiday turkeys is just one small way we can express our appreciation for the incredible work of our employees and help ensure that families across the region—through our partners at Golden Empire Gleaners—can enjoy a warm holiday meal.”
In Michigan, home of the Michigan State Poker Championship Firekeepers Casino donated 200 turkeys to Feeding America West Michigan. It was the sixteenth year the casino donated to the food bank for Thanksgiving.
