The announcement was made by founder Doug Polk through Upswing Poker’s website and a video he posted on his popular YouTube channel. Polk founded Upswing Poker in 2015 along with Ryan Fee and Matt Colletta.

“After an almost decade-long run on our own, it’s time to make this a tag team event,” Upswing Poker founder Doug Polk said in a press release published on Upswing Poker. “These are two great companies that make the poker world a better place. While this marks new ownership of Upswing, it will now have the tools and resources to be even better in the coming years.”

Upswing Swing poker is a subscription-based training site that has used dozens of pros throughout the years to train poker players through videos, articles, charts and quizzes. It’s now part of the ClubWPT Gold brand. ClubWPT Gold is an online poker site that uses a sweepstakes model to bypass local laws governing gambling and online poker.

In the video announcing the deal, Polk said that nothing will change with Upswing Poker, including the number of employees that now work for the site, including Polk himself. In fact, the site is looking to hire more coaches and other roles.

“All of the people currently working on Upswing will remain working on Upswing,” Polk said. “I’m still going to be doing marketing for Upswing and I’m still going to be doing coach recruitment for Upswing. We’re trying to find good quality candidates to come work at the company. I think we have extremely competitive pay. For the advanced signature courses, it’s thousands and thousands of dollars an hour. We are actively recruiting coaches. Mike Brady and Matt Colletta both will stay on as well to help oversee things and make sure that this goes smoothly, and that the Upswing brand continues to flourish.”

Although the price of the sale wasn’t disclosed, you can be sure that Polk made some bank on the site that he started by writing a $5,000 check.

“I will never forget the day that I wrote a $5,000 check to start Upswing. What an incredible journey building this company has been,” Polk said. “Thank you to the tens of thousands of members who have joined Upswing over the years. To this day, I am inspired by your stories.”

ClubWPT Gold uses coins as currency on its site, which can be exchanged for real money if a player happens to win them through cash games or tourneys. Upswing Poker is celebrating the sale by giving new members a small amount of coins if they purchase courses. Click here for more information.

“I am also proud of the value we have provided to our members and how we have pushed forward the poker training industry,” Polk said. “The Upswing team is not going anywhere. We will be staying on board to help facilitate a successful transition and to shape the future of both companies.”
