GGPoker Believes Redemption Is Possible, Invites Banned Players Back

GGPoker, the world’s largest online poker site and the international home of the World Series of Poker, is giving players kicked-off for cheating another chance.

In the “spirit of growth and second chances,” GGPoker announced its Olive Branch Initiative. Players who have been caught doing things like multi-accounting, colluding, or using real-time assistance like solvers by the site’s security team are invited to have their cases reviewed.

“The Olive Branch Program represents our belief that while we must protect our community, we should remain open to redemption when it is genuinely warranted,” the announcement on its site reads.

GGPoker says this initiative “doesn’t change GGPoker’s fundamental commitment to maintaining the highest standards of fair play and security. We’ll continue enforcing our Security and Ecology Policy with the same rigor that makes GGPoker trusted worldwide.”

The site claims its goal is to “maintain a zero-tolerance stance against activities violating our Security and Ecology Policy. Our unwavering commitment to protecting our community has resulted in the permanent removal of violators from our network. We stand by this approach because fair play is fundamental to everything we do.

However, just as the poker industry grows and matures, we recognize that people can also change. Players who once contributed unsportsmanlike behavior may have since evolved, learned from their mistakes, and developed a genuine commitment to fair play.”

Players who have been banned and think they either deserve a second chance or the banning was in error have until Oct. 1 to apply for their accounts to be reinstated. To get that done, booted players have to send an email to security@ggnetwork.com with the subject line “Olive Branch Application.”

The email must contain the following bits of information: GGPoker Network account nickname, player’s full name, attached detailed explanation of why a reinstatement review is being requested, and recent proof of identity, proof of address, and a picture holding the proof of identity.

Yep, a selfie.

The site warned players “(r)einstatement is not guaranteed. Each application will be evaluated based on the circumstances of the original violation, the time passed, and the applicant’s demonstration of genuine change.”

The applicants will be notified of the security team’s decision by Nov. 1.
