Stephen Chidwick, the poker master from Kent, took his eleventh PokerGO Tour title in the first event of the Super High Roller Series at Aria in Las Vegas that is now going on.

With only 13 players competing in the $15,100 Pot Limit Omaha, it felt more like a single-table sit ‘n go rather than a super high roller contest. But even online sit ‘n goes usually pay the top three players. Only two made the money here.

Chidwick beat fellow Englander Talal Shakerchi heads-up for $136,500. Shakerchi won $58,500. In fact, the last three players were all from England, but it was Gruffudd Pugh-Jones who was the bubble boy after Chidwick ran roughshod over just about everyone.

The defining hand of the final table occurred against Alex Foxen, who put all his chips in the middle on the flop with a flush draw against Chidwick’s two pair. Foxen would turn his flush, but the chips went Chidwick’s way when he hit his full house on the river, giving him a nice stack to attack the rest of the high rollers with five left.

Heads-up pay acted exactly one hand. Shakerchi found pocket kings, but Chidwick’s straight draw came through on the turn to win the first event of the series.

Chidwick started winning titles on the PGT in 2021. With more than $73 million in tournament cashes, he sits in second on the all-time cash list. Goodness, what a career he is building. And he’s only 34.
